Mark was born in Odessa, Texas, and moved to Richardson in 1967. He went to J.J. Pearce high school and graduated from Texas Tech. He met Kim, his wife of 42 years, during his first year of teaching. He and Kim have two children, Reverend Hailey Malcolm and Major Rob Malcolm, United States Marine Corps.
Mark taught and coached for 35 years in Richardson at Apollo Jr. High, Berkner High School, and Pearce High School. He was chosen to receive a national Double-Goal Coach Award from the Positive Coaching Alliance in 2018. He taught Government, Economics, and World History at Shelton School. He was the Shelton Spark Award winner in 2021. He coached football for eight years at Shelton School, the last five as the head football coach, making the playoffs all five years! He was the only varsity football coach with a winning record and was awarded Shelton Coach of the Year in 2018.
His favorite quote is from G.K Chesterton. “Earth is a task garden; Heaven is a playground.” The incredible teachers and coaches I have worked alongside at Shelton have elevated teaching to such an art form that the very act of learning makes Earth a playground.
Mark is honored and excited to have the chance to serve on the StandUpLD board. The opportunity to provide educational resources is the opportunity to absolutely change lives.
